QUICK GUIDE

How to play.

  1. 01

    Choose a method

Play the computer or take turns with a friend on one device. Against the computer, pick its level and whether you move first or second.

  2. 02

    Place stones

Tap an intersection to place a stone. On phones the first tap previews the spot and a second tap places it. Arrow keys and Enter work too.

  3. 03

    Make five in a row

The first to connect five across, down, or diagonally wins. Made a slip? Use Undo to take it back.

Frequently asked questions

What is the double-three rule?

It stops Black, who moves first, from making two open threes with one move. It is common in Korea because it reduces the first-move advantage. Forbidden points are marked with × on the board, and a move that makes five still wins.

Does six or more in a row win?

Yes. Here five or more in a row wins for both Black and White.

How strong is the computer?

Easy makes occasional mistakes, normal plays solid attack and defense, and hard also weighs your best reply. It does not read as deep as dedicated gomoku engines, so steady pressure can beat it.

Where is my record saved?

Only your wins and losses against each computer level are saved in this browser, and they are never sent to a server. Two-player games are not recorded.
